We think of small group ministry not as a ministry to groups with the aim of producing good groups; but rather a ministry to individuals, in the context of community, with the aim of making mature disciples of Jesus Christ.
Care Group leaders have the freedom in deciding what is best for their group. The main objective is spiritual growth in Christ, flowing from a deep understanding of the Gospel. In keeping the Mission in mind, the formation of disciple-making disciples would be the ultimate result.
Care Group leaders are encouraged to be observing their group to identify future leaders of other groups. If a new group is spawned from an existing group, then it would be an indication that the main objective and the ultimate result are being realized.
New groups have the freedom to base their focus on some aspect of the Mission. The dynamics of the group might lean the group toward evangelism, Bible study, prayer, exhortation, service, acts of mercy, or many other needful ministries. We encourage the formation of new groups in different locations at different times with babysitting, so as to provide a wide range of opportunity for people to participate.
“Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” (Ephesians 4:15-16)
